Welcome to Liberty Junior School. This school has been in existence in the Lakota School District since 1977. One of our main objectives is to deliver outstanding academic and co-curricular opportunities that directly and significantly enhance the education of all students who pass through our doors. Our school's designation by the state of Ohio on our 08-09 Report Card is Excellent. We have earned the Excellent distinction now for nine years in a row!
Robb Vogelmann and Ken Martin had the privilege of traveling to the Ohio School Board Association conference in Columbus on November 9, 2009, to receive the 2009 SOAR Award for High Progress Schools from Battelle for Kids. This award was given to only 12 schools out of a possible 783 eligible based on five areas: indicators of effectiveness; above average growth; consistency in school effects across grades and subjects; above average school effects on common state-administered tests; and negative school effects. These areas are the factors that determine our value-added piece for the state report card.
Twelve Ohio schools received the 2009 SOAR Award for High Progress Schools (Liberty being one) and five Ohio districts (Lakota being one) received the 2009 SOAR Award for Significant Progress Districts. These annual awards are designed to acknowledge Ohio schools and districts participating in SOAR, Battelle for Kids' school improvement collaborative, for their academic progress in multiple grade levels and subjects over the last school year (2008-2009). These schools are among the top 1.5 percent of schools and the districts are among the top 5 percent of districts making exceptional growth with their students.
"We are pleased to recognize each of these schools and districts for their extraordinary progress with students," said Jim Mahoney, executive director, Battelle for Kids. "Their progress reminds us that students come to school at many different places in their academic achievement, but what's important is that educators take them to higher ground. And these schools and districts have taken their students to much higher ground."
Superintendent of Public Instruction Deb Delisle attended the ceremony, offered congratulatory remarks and presented each school and district with their respective award.
